Indiana Drive – June 23rd

WRAPUP: We had a small crowd of 5 MINIs gather due to wet weather. The advantage was light traffic, and a bit more excitement throught the twisty bits. After 55 miles of exploring back roads we headed off to a nice breakfast.

The perfect start to a Saturday morning!!

Come on out and explore some roads a little east of Chicagoland in Northwest Indiana.

When: Saturday June 23rd Start at 8:30am

Where: Jewel parking lot 805 Joliet st. Dyer Indiana

What: a 55 mile drive around some back roads, ending at Paragon Family Restaurant 1545 Lincoln Highway, Schererville, IN

Why: Just a chance to get together for a bit of Motoring fun

Who: This event is open to anyone!!

Things to bring: Enough gas for the trip, Optional navigator to share the fun, FRS radio tuned to Channel #1, Subchannel #1 to help keep everyone together and on track, a camera, your favorite MINI clothing, and a smile. Huge thanks to Mike and Deb for mapping out the route.

    Sorry, the link is corrected. The parking lot is about 5 miles south on Calumet Ave after exiting 80/94 (there will be a different Jewel before that, but not the one you want).

    Toll or not to Toll. Just a heads up. If 294/toll is near or on your route to the southside, IN or MI. Take it, and pay the tolls with joy. I took the Dan last Sat morning thinking I would save miles, time and a few bucks. I WAS WRONG! Saved no time, hated the middle miles, and lost money in the stop-n-go mess of the un-”express lane”.

    I then ran the numbers, from LakeCook Rd to the IN State line, the toll road is only 5 more miles and with an I-Pass the much, much faster way to get down south.

    Put me down as a “maybe” for this one. I enjoyed the other “southside” run last year, so I’m hoping to make this one as well…

    We’ve got a mix in this drive – things to see, places for our MINI’s to be seen and oh yeah, a few spots to verify that your car is handling the way you expect…

    I figured hitting the road at about 8:30..

    Early is better for heat and traffic (but it is early..)

    A note about traveling to Indiana. The I-Pass for IL will work in Indiana after the 25th of June. Also, You can take LSD south to 57th and follow the signs to the skyway. In the morning it will move. We (Gabe, Steve, Matt) took it on our trip down to Indy and the Dragon.

    It works.
