Drive the Milwaukee Mile May 6

EVENT FOLLOW UP!

Hello Gang, Today started very early for a few members that met today in Gurnee. We had 8 MINI’s to start and picked up one more along the way to the MILE.

Here are Dustins pictures

The cool part is you can print them at YOUR LOCAL Walgreens.

We drove to Milwaukee to meet another 24 MINI’s to drive in together. I think we had the single highest number of cars of any one group, with Vettes a close 2nd. Doing laps was fun, and Cliff made it really fun! While the laps were fun, the team running the Mile event at the MILE really needs some help. This was one of the most disorganized events I have ever been too. Unless there are major changes in how they run the event my 1st will be my last.

Join the Milwaukee MINI Club on Sunday, May 6th for the DRIVE THE MILE event with the opportunity to drive 3 laps around the Milwaukee Mile!

For those of you who joined us last year, the Milwaukee Mile assures us that they are much more organized this year! Last year the MINIS had the largest car club contingent there with 26 MINIS โ€“ let’s make it even larger this time around!

Dustin will be leading the Chicago Area people, meeting at the Steak and Shake in Gurnee Mills (6070 Gurnee Mills Cir E, Gurnee, Illinois) at 7:30

See below for more details. The Registration form needs to be in by April 16th

WHEN: Sunday, May 6, 2007

ADMISSION: Pre-register for a fee of $10 per driver, or pay $15 the day of the drive. Passengers ride for free, and two non-perishable food items (per vehicle) are requested for the Hunger Task Force collection.

WANT TO PARTICIPATE? Complete the registration form and return directly to The Milwaukee Mile. Be sure to note on the form that you are part of the Milwaukee MINIS and heard about it through the Club. (Even though the deadline says April 12th , we have official permission to push the deadline back to April 16th. ), after you mail in your registration, be sure to RSVP to Milwaukee MINI member Pat at biggpat0@yahoo.com so that he can keep track of who is attending.

MEETING SPOT: Ignore the specific gate information that will be sent to you by The Milwaukee Mile once you register. Instead, plan to meet at 9 am in the Walgreens parking lot across from The Milwaukee Mile at the corner of Greenfield Avenue and 84th Street in West Allis, WI. From there, Pat & Dustin will be taking the lead on organizing everyone to drive onto the track together. ONCE YOU’VE COMPLETED YOUR LAPS: Victory Lane will be open to pose with your MINI for photos, there will be a huge classic car show, as well as food and refreshments available for purchase. We have reserved paddock space to display our MINIS as a group afterwards as well. SMALL PRINT: Must be 18 years of age and older to drive. Must present a valid drivers license and must present proof of current vehicle insurance. No exceptions.

  1. My registration is going out in the morning mail. I hadn’t been on the club page for a few weeks. Got on after seeing Gabe’s promo on the Fox News!

  2. Got my welcome kit, I’m number 119. If we miss the Steak and Shake meet-up we’ll see you all there.

  3. Haven’t signed up yet for the Drive the Mile event this Sunday? There is still time! To participate, simply meet Pat & Dustin in the Walgreen’s parking lot at the corner of 84th Street & Greenfield Avenue in West Allis, WI this Sunday, May 6th at 9 am. Day-of registration cost is $15 per driver, plus 2 non-perishable food items. And don’t forget your proof of insurance!

  4. I am #131. See you at Gurnee on Sunday. Looks like it will eb a beautiful day. Gilbert Brown (former Packers great and one of the coodinators of this event) was all over the Milwaukee radio this morning. I work in Racine and caught him on two stations talking about this and his bowling event on Saturday. There’s another station he was on last year talking aboth the Drive that I’m sure he was on after I got to work.

  5. Just talked to MM, looks like a total of 20 MINI’s for the MILE on Sunday. FUN FUN FUN!

If your running late to Gurnee, just call me at 312-388-4263. See Ya Sunday, Dustin

  7. Been Thinking about the MILE 08. Would you like to met like we did today, drive into the MILE, do our Laps and then hit the road for a tour to some great place for lunch. I think most of us had done our laps by 10am and could have been off driving local roads to a place for lunch. Your feedback is welcome.

  8. HI!

Thanks to all the Chicago friends who made it up for the Mile. It was great to see all the MINIs together. It helped add a little normalicy (is that a word?) to my life given current circumstances. So thanks to all!

It’s gonna take me a while to have my pictures up on my website as I’m not on my main computer that has my website on it. I might open a FLICKR account and post them up there (along with the Jelly Belly tour pics which are still on my camera).

I have to agree that the organization was pretty poor. I think last year was a little better as all of our cars were together. I think the even has grown and they have limited space. Being one of the big groups, I don’t think they anticipated the number of MINIs that showed up. Oddly, I think we non-registered MINIs actually beat most of the pre-registered folks in. You would think the preregistration would have given an advantage. They should also assign an approximate time for the clubs to do their laps. That way we could be assured that we’d be together. One improvement is that they ran multiple groups at the same time. Last year, it was one group at a time and it took forever do do your laps. The victory lane thing was a let down…I thought we’d have our cars there instead of the Indy car…oh well.

I kind of like the idea of doing laps and going somewhere for lunch. This would forgo the touring of the various cars on the lot, but my guess is if you attended this year, you’ve seen most of the unique cars that will probably show up next year. The only problem is that the Mile is pretty much in the center of Milwaukee and it would take a while to get to the interesting roads. We have a year though, so we could work on it.

Thanks again to all who came up (good to hang out with you again Cliff, just like last year! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

  9. Hello Tom, sorry I didn’t get to visit with you today. The funny, or not so funny, thing is of the 33 MINI’s ONLY 4 had not pre-registered. The biggest issue today was the lack of branding the “workers” they all need to wear the same hat, shirt, vest or bunny ears ๐Ÿ™‚ the left hand had no clue that the right hand was even there.

  10. I had fun even though the parking Nazis were a pain. I don’t think they could organize a fart smelling competition. We had the largest turn-out of any group and you would think they didn’t know we were coming. I would be up for taking the laps and ditching the rest of the show next year.
We made a new friend today. Vanko just picked his MINI up this past week. I had a chance to talk to him and he is really into MINIs.

  11. Yes, Welcome Vanko to our club, he is driving a new 06 Red “S” with black roof, lives in Arlington Heights area. I bet it’s full of mods in a few weeks.

  13. I checked the free pictures that you could have taken in Victory Lane with the Indy car…if there was ever an excuse to clip your nails…check this out:

    Here’s Cliff: Pict

Here’s My brother, my niece and I: Pict

Holy Godzilla, Batman! Check out more fingernail carnage here.

So glad they hired a professional.

  14. HEy Tom, where was that, I missed have missed it on the program and map they gave us LOL.
