Plans are in the works for an overnight trip to the New Glarus area of Wisconsin on October 3rd and 4th.  We are planning a mix of driving and sightseeing activites, plus leaving time for you to explore the area on your own or in smaller groups.

Here are some of the details we have so far..

WHEN: Saturday October 3rd and Sunday October 4th

WHERE: Start at the Beloit rest stop off I90 [Map Link] we will be departing at 9am.  Destination is in the New Glarus area.

WHO: This event is open to Chicago MINI Motoring Club members, and all MINI (and Mini) friends, including members of the MilwaukeeMINIs,  Madison Mad City MINIs, Minis In Northern Illinois, and the Eastern Iowa MINIs.

We are currently working on hotel information,  There are several in the local area, and we will try to list a few choices in different price ranges, including camping.

We are also looking to see if we can get a group rate at one of the hotels, so if you are interested in attending this event, please add a comment to help us estimate how many people to plan for!!

Things are looking good that I will be going along. There is a Myeloma Conference that I might attend on the 3rd so I may be playing catch-up that day. I’ll have to see the agenda for the conference.

Is there a way to join the group there? We live in Madison.

Just got off the phone with the brewery. They are open from 10 am to 4 pm on both Saturday and Sunday. There are two entrances to their facility located at 2400 State Highway 69. The entrance at the bottom of the hill is the one recommended to avoid confusion. My girlfriend and I will be joining you all and will definitely be hitting the brewery.

Hi Kathy,

Many of us are planning on eating brunch at the Chalet Landhaus ($12.50 pp). I’ll probably get there about 8:30am. Others may be earlier or later. Let me know if you’d like to eat there so I can notify thier staff.

In any case, we’re departing the Chalet Landhaus Inn at 10:00 AM for a 1 hour scenic back roads drive to Mt Horeb. There we’ll visit the Mustard Museum and if people want, have lunch. Then at 12:30, we’re heading down to Monroe to visit a cheese factory. Back roads drive of about 2 hours.

Those that don’t want to drive south with us can (or wake up late and want to hang out a bit in New Glarus) can visit Cave in the Mounds or Little Norway.

We’ll have more details up tomorrow!

Hi, I’m very interested in the drive and other fun. Not sure if the over night is something that I am able to do due to schedule, is there any additional info you could send. I would like to join up with you on Sunday if possible.
Thanks
John S.

Yeah… I might be able to do one day of the two… which one will have more twisty roads??? ;)))

Hi John,

Check out the new post:

http://chicagominiclub.com/2009/09/28/wisconsin-overnighter-info/

It has full details on times and locations. The plan for Sunday is to leave at 10 am from New Glarus, drive to Mt Horeb, then down to Monroe.

Hi Kes,

I’m really looking forward to the Saturday afternoon drive from Monroe to New Glarus. It’s got great pacing and flow. Very scenic too.

The Sunday drives are also really nice, a 1 hour drive to Mt Horeb, then a choice of 2 drives down to Monroe - 2 hr and 3 hr options!

Hope to see you both this weekend!

Really sorry to have to cancel my trip. My car is now having check-engine issues and I’m just not comfortable coming on the trip. Have been calculating flat-bed charges from New Glarus to Chicago. lol Very bummed not to be there. Taylor
